After taking two buses, a plane, and another bus, seven friends and I safely arrived at our hostel in Brussels, Belgium! The hostel we stayed in was much nicer than I had anticipated and we were the only ones in our rooms. The great thing about this hostel was that it was walking distance from the center of the city. I know, so EXCITING, right? We all joined a free walking tour of the city, which was a great decision because we were able to see everything that we would've wanted to see. I don't know about you, but I knew nothing about Belgium (other than they have great chocolate and waffles) before going on this trip, so I really did learn a lot on this walking tour!

Because I didn't know anything about Belgium, I also had NO IDEA that we would come across an Independence Day Parade in the middle of a street. It was a surreal experience being in Brussels for a parade that I thought of as a surprise parade.

On the tour of Brussels, we did not see the Atomium, so we went at night. This was definitely a better decision to see the structure at night rather than during the day because the structure lights up!! It was so beautiful and much much bigger than I expected it to be. Unfortunately, we couldn't go inside it because we were too late, but we did get to see it!

The next day we started our day at the Belgium Chocolate Village! I know I'm finally getting to telling you all about the good part of the trip. Yes, we did learn about the process of making chocolate. Yes, we did get free chocolate. Honestly, it was the best chocolate I've ever had. No lie. I know that you're all also wondering about the waffles. Right? Well, those were also the best waffles I've ever had. I won't tell you how many waffles I had this past weekend, only that it was a lot of waffles and I could've eaten more. In Brussels they call waffles 'gaufres,' which was much more fun to say than waffles.

Of course we had to buy waffles for the walk to the bus station because who wouldn't want the last food they ate in Brussels to be gaufres? You can catch the kids of AIFS in the West of Ireland this upcoming weekend! Cliffs of Moher, here we come!!
