Have ye heard about the wee giant, lads?

This past weekend I traveled to Northern Ireland with 14 friends and stayed in an Airbnb. It took about 6 hours to get from our student accommodation to Ballycastle. Our first stop on Friday was at a pub called the Dirty Onion and they had amazing Mexican food, seriously the burritos were fantastic. After an early dinner and two more bus rides, we were finally at the house. We stayed in a house called the Forestside house, but really this house was not beside any forests whatsoever. It was very close to the Giant's Causeway and the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge though. I was so happy because the beds were much more comfortable than the cheap, springy beds provided at student housing. Thankfully, Saturday was the perfect day for sightseeing. I saw the Giant's Causeway, which is thousands of interlocking basalt columns that were formed by a volcanic eruption. Strangely enough, they are all more or less in the shape of a hexagon.

Before going down to the walk on the basalt columns, a few friends and I walked on top off the cliff and looked down on the causeway. It was absolutely beautiful and there were a couple of rainbows that popped up along the way. Next on the list was the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, which is only 5 miles or so away from the causeway. Unfortunately, the tickets to walk across the bridge were sold out! At 3pm! I was a little upset because I had so been looking forward to walking on this rope bridge. We were able to look at the bridge though and imagine what it would be like to walk on it.

It was about a .62 kilometer walk to get to the bridge and it had been raining the whole time we were walking over to the bridge. It even started hailing at one point! I was not aware that it even hailed in Northern Ireland! There was a silver lining to this small hailstorm and it was one of the most beautiful rainbows I've ever seen.

Even though we couldn't walk across the bridge, I was just happy to be with friends and see this rainbow. Seven of us had a great dinner at a restaurant that I don't remember the name of, so I'm sorry I can't really give any recommendations. On Sunday, a couple of friends and I walked around Belfast for a few hours before heading back to school. We saw lots of murals, churches, and even stopped in the St. George's Market for more amazing burritos (I guess Belfast might be known for burritos?) and even better chocolate covered peanut butter balls! I had a great weekend with great friends and I can't wait for Paris this upcoming weekend!
